Arraigo Social
What is the Arraigo Social
Arraigo Social is a legal process in Spain that provides a pathway for non-EU nationals who have been living in the country without legal status for at least three years to regularize their situation. It is part of Spain’s broader immigration policy aimed at integrating individuals who have established significant connections within Spanish society.
This residency permit is not granted automatically but requires applicants to demonstrate their integration into the community, often through social, familial, or economic ties. It acknowledges the contributions and presence of individuals who, despite lacking formal immigration status, have become part of Spanish society and wish to live and work legally.
Once approved, the Arraigo Social residency permit allows the individual to work and reside in Spain for an initial period of one year, which can be renewed and potentially lead to more permanent residency options. It is a mechanism that balances the need for immigration control with a compassionate approach to those who have built a life in Spain despite initial irregularities.
Requirements
- Non-EU Citizen: You must not be a citizen of the EU, EEA, Switzerland, or a family member of an EU citizen.
- Clean Criminal Record: You must have no criminal record in Spain or any other country of previous residence.
- Continuous Residency: You must have lived continuously in Spain for 3 years without leaving.
- No Entry Ban: You must not have been denied entry to Spain or be considered undesirable by any country with a reciprocal agreement with Spain.
- Employment or Self-Sufficiency: You must have a valid employment contract or demonstrate economic self-sufficiency.
- Local Connections: You must establish local connections through family ties or community integration.
- Appointment with Immigration Office: Schedule an appointment to submit necessary documents, including proof of residency, financial means, and local connections.
